Form Study Rust III
(2020) 29x35x30" Stoneware, wash, pigment
As a child wrestles with a balloon, twisting and moving the volume trapped inside, these form studies are an experience of activating space. The pushing and pulling of both air and mass provide a three-dimensional experience to the viewer as they engage with the piece. These works reflect my studio process as I engage in this dance with the material, both leading and being led as the piece evolves. Both participants adjust and respond to the movements of the other. This is a dance of moving mass and air to create form.
