My work explores the identity of objects through the ceramic vessel. I utilize the visual language from my own experiences to assist surface and form to elicit a feeling of otherness. This allows for an opportunity to create a relationship between object and viewer. I strive to create wares that at first glance are soft, quiet, structures but when viewed closely become vibrant and active. The subtle black surfaces are contrasted with moments of fluid glossy glaze that define lines between fluxed and stable surfaces. Through my process of stacking forms, I wish to establish a structural sense of stability to create direction through my vessels. I hope my forms offer a sense of tranquility in the quiet, still and yet alive nature of the surfaces. This enables the viewer to reflect upon the vessel and begin to re-contextualize their roles and place.
