Scent and taste are known catalysts for memory. Certain family recipes link us to the past, layering time, transcending generations, marking moments of our lives, and creating human experience. They provide glimpses of familiar traces of taste, smell, and texture, which become anchors to our identities and histories. Secret Recipes consists of hundreds of hand formed porcelain thumb bones linked with wire to create an apron form. I am drawn to the fragility and permanence of porcelain in the same way that I am captivated by the enduring comfort of family recipes.
